Softening Up for Summer!

Reading blogs this morning when I realized the sun was shining in on my living room make-over. I tried to get shots of it yesterday, but it was raining, and the flash kept washing out the pictures so they didn’t do justice to all the fussing I’d done. But the warm bath of sunshine called me to grab my camera and try again.  This is a bit more like it!

I found these delightful little dogwood pillows at a thrift store last fall, and couldn’t resist!  Sweetest little things were under $3 and are backed with a baby pink quilted fabric.  IMG_8657

Happy blooms from my friend Terri!  Friends who spread cheer with flowers.  Love ! And another thrift find: the blue vintage metal tray. Drum roll please: 99 cents. (Or was it 69 cents?…I can’t remember)

Found the vintage ticking pillowcase on Etsy for six bucks. And the lighter one I found at a thrift store for under a dollar. But it was one long piece in a six-inch wide strip.  So I sewed it together to add to my collection of vintage ticking pillow covers!  More love!IMG_8666 IMG_8668

Pretty Plates

Another reason to hit thrift stores: I started collecting mismatched vintage plates for a plate rack that is in the works.  Here are a few favorites:IMG_7788 IMG_7787IMG_7834 IMG_7836 IMG_7839 IMG_7841 IMG_7844 IMG_7849 IMG_7850 IMG_7852 IMG_7853 IMG_7854 IMG_7855 IMG_7858IMG_7847 IMG_7860

Thrift Charms

The whole world is full of creativity and talent: all these goodies were at one time dreams in the mind of their creator. I never thought I’d be a girly girl, love pink, prissy, frilly, lacy, flowery, foo foo femenine stuff. But here I am, putting together little collections of treasures I’ve picked up for pennies and launching them to stardom.  Oh, I could resell them on ebay, but not just yet.  That would be like putting an old racehorse out to pasture before it ever hit the track!  Ahhh…savor the charm and playfulness of days gone by.

Flannel & Denim…Done!

I started this with blue flannel and red sweatshirt fabric. I was moving happily along when I ran out of the blue flannel!  I had other flannels, but didn’t want the edges to look out of place, so I cut up a bunch of old jeans and finished up the quilt that way.  I used white cotton for the hand tying, but I’m not sure I like it.  I may have to learn to machine quilt.  What do you think?  Does the hand tied look take away or add to in this case? IMG_7773

Speed Quilt!

Christmas day was fast approaching, and still I hadn’t found anything for my sister.  I was on the lookout for something just right in a thrift store, or second hand shop, or even in my house somewhere (We try not to buy NEW things for eachother..that just wouldn’t do..) But nothing had jumped out at me,  and time was running out. She too had made a pile last summer from fabrics she liked, letting me know the kind of quilt she’d prefer. But I couldn’t possibly have time for that.  Not this year.  Or did I?  I had started one of my own with larger squares.  The work goes fast when the squares are big.

IMG_7702  IMG_7710 I even found the perfect sheet for a backing.  And added my little embroidered bee for fun.

Snowflake Angels

Found these little cuties for twenty-five cents each on one of my thirft outings.  They were dying to make an appearance here on my blog, so I set them up in a few different poses…and…well…a star is born..or a snowflake..or something like that.

Quilting Dreams

Feeling light, floral and inspired I started with a stained antique linen towel with cute embroidery. I saw this on henhousehomemade.blogspot.com and fell in love with the idea. miaslandliv.blogspot.com  is  another wonderful site from Norway!

Isn’t She Lovely!

Wait!    Start the music….THEN scroll…

IMG_7427My first attempt at a chair facelift!  I got six of these at a yard sale a couple years ago.  They weren’t pretty, but we needed the extra chairs for a party.  Now I am changing them one at a time with all kinds of fun spray paint colors and shabby fabrics! Stay tuned for the other five.

Isn’t she LOVELY?!! 🙂
